What is screen printing?
Screen printing is a method that allows ink to be applied directly to the surface to be printed. It is used to make art prints and for commercial applications, from the printing of t-shirts, banners, gadgets, posters, business cards, furniture items. Do you want to transfer your design onto a t-shirt? A logo to print on uniforms, on a banner, on glass, plastic, wood? The screen printing technique allows you all this and much more. Try it out!
The image to be printed is transferred photographically onto a very thin fabric contained in the frame, leaving the print areas free and functioning as a mask. The ink is spread on the frame to then pass through the free areas and reach the support to be printed. A frame is prepared for each color to be printed. The design for each colour can be overlaid creating the four-color process.
Goals of the course
The aim of the course is to teach students the technique of screen printing and its multiple applications. The printing technique is easy to understand and does not require special skills, making it accessible to everyone.
Amongst the course goals are an introduction to the process of screen printing, how to design the layout in order to photoengrave the screen printing frame, a practical workshop with print test on different materials. Once the knowledge of the print process is acquired, including frame making and printing, students can print their own drawings on the supports they can provide. A small series production can be made.
No experience is required but loads of curiosity and interest. A personal laptop is necessary.
